What is a chemical peel and how does it exfoliate the skin?

A chemical peel is an advanced aesthetics procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, and hands.  During this procedure a licensed aesthetician applies a chemical, alpha-hydroxy acid, beta-hydroxy acid, or enzyme solution to the skin. The benefits include: smoother, softer skin, lightening of dark spots, and increased collagen production!

What is Collagen Induction Therapy and how does it work?

The skin is made up of multiple layers that peel away when they die. The outer layer is called the epidermis and layer right below is the dermis.  This layer has many of the nerves and hair follicles in it.  The dermis is primarily made up of collagen which has a network of fibers that supports the skin.  It’s also responsible for the growth of cells and blood vessels.  Licensed aestheticians use microneedles to perform collagen induction therapy to ease the appearance of aging, fill in scars, and of course, add volume in certain areas of the face. In collagen induuction therapy clusters of small needles penetrate the skin and break up old collagen clusters and stimulate the production of new. During this process the microneedle will penetrate the epidermis without removing it, allowing for a rapid healing process often faster than that of a chemical peel. It’s critical that aestheticians are licensed and have attended a proper training course before attempting to perform this advanced aesthetics procedure.
